Daikou in the USA

Every since I lived in Japan I thought daikou (a service where a company sends someone to drive your own car home with you in it) was a great thing and I wondered why they didn’t do it in the USA.

It turns out that they do!

I just learned about Zingo, a driving service similar to daikou that uses motorized scooters to come to your location, put the scooter in the trunk of your car, and then drive you home.  They also provide other driving services, but the scooter model is the closest to what they do in Japan, where typically two people arrive in a “kei car” (a small, low powered car or keijidousha) and one person drives your car home while the other follows behind in the kei car.  Zingo is available in a number of cities around the United States.

To learn more about Zingo and their locations, go here (Warning: their site plays music – turn it off by skipping the intro and using the button on the top right):

Do you know of any other services like this in the US?  Have you used Zingo or any of the others?  What did you think?
